hi monkeys

I’m posting 7-days now. Except when I’m not, because things might happen that prevent it. But when there are no such things, I’ll be here. So don’t worry.

This morning I had brunch with friends from high school, the India school, down in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District. The place was called “Paradou“, and had some pretty intense menu action, definitely catering to the “morning after” crowd, (they played dance music at 11a, for instance) but not entirely. We sat outside in the back area, which was nice and cool. It wasn’t super crowded at 11a, and because we were a party of 13, that was nice. I think we had reservations. The pretty hostess lady’s skirt was too short for the size of her ass and all the waiters were handsome gay men.

I actually like a larger ass on a lady. I mean, not humongus but I like something there.

You know what I mean.

Holy.

I need to get out of this frame.

So that was that. My friend and I discussed it briefly.

“Hey, you see the hostess?”

“Yeah man, looks like she just came from a club.”

“She’s Russian but ethnically Colombian.”

“How the hell do you know that?”

“Been here a few times.”

And so he had been. He’s not really a “partier” (I loath the term) but does head out sometimes, especially now that he’s divorced.  I usually decline, but have had some fun a few times at his get-togethers.

Anyway, the menu was pretty good. It’s a $29 brunch with unlimited champagne. I didn’t go that way because today’s a training day, but I made of note of it for the future, especially for out of town visitors or something.

I had the duck ruben sandwich.

Daaaaaaang tasty.

It was great to catch up with people. One guy who came down with his wife, the last time I saw him was at my friend’s wedding a couple years ago. Really nice guy. He runs a “hair” business… as in, they collect, treat, and resell freakin’ human hair to people. Sound weird? It is. His stories are funny. He now owns stores on three continents, 36 locations in total, 4 right here in NYC. Nuts.

But ok.

———————————————————-

Tomorrow I’m off to Milwaukee for that lab I mentioned a couple days ago. I’ll be staying here for the week. I’m comp’ed completely, airfare and all, for the entire week, so that’ll be nice. The invitation actually included a +1, for a spouse or GF or something. That would have been interesting. I have no idea what a spouse or GF would do all day while we work on stuff, though. It’s a resort, but I mean, it’s Milwaukee. Maybe it’s amazing! OR maybe it’s… the way I kind of imagine it, which is the kind of place to maybe not take a “vacation” in with your lovely.

All of that is NA to me anyway. I just thought it was interesting that they gave me a +1 for the week.

Nowhere on the page can I find any information on training facilities, like gyms or anything.

If there is no training amenities (as seems to be the case), no big deal. I can find a tree for my pullups (1-armers all day baby), I can press the earth the fuck off of me for chest and shoulders. It’s on lake Michigan so I should be able to get my swimming in. I’ll swim an hour down the coast and run back. An hour of swimming is about 2 miles or so of water, so the run back is basically nothing.

This lab is going to be intense. I can’t wait. The 30 other participants are really heavy hitters in the field of conflict science, a mix of practitioners and scholars, mediators, negotiators, psychologists, computational modelers and mathematicians, coming together to try to solve some problems for the week. I was invited by the Director because of some ideas that have come up from my end over the years.  At least I think that’s why I was invited. I hope that’s why.

Saturnday is burning by, it’s 11:05p and I need to pack for an early morning flight outta here to freakin’ Wisconsin. Never been and can’t wait. I should probably shower and sleep soon.

Talk soon,

Duck
